The ODPM has partnered with the Diego Martin Regional Corporation to train and develop Community Emergency Response Teams (CERTs) for their region. CERTs are pivotal to community resilience as they are considered an extension of first responder services; offering immediate help to hazard-impacted victims until professional first responders arrive. After two months of training (which included basic disaster response skills, such as fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization and disaster medical operations) sixty persons will graduate from this programme.
