Moderately strong winds, widespread showers and scattered thundershowers expected from Friday evening into Saturday morning
Today, the TT Meteorological Service has advised that an active tropical wave embedded in the Inter-Tropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) is approaching Trinidad and Tobago and the Southern Windward Islands. As a result, both islands can experience, from Friday evening into Saturday morning, moderately strong winds, widespread showers and scattered thundershowers.
This weather can initiate flooding in areas so prone, increased water levels in the nation’s river courses and landslides in areas so prone.
In light of this, the ODPM, as the lead coordinator for crises and emergencies, has put all first responder agencies (disaster management units of the municipal corporations, Trinidad and Tobago Fire Service, Trinidad and Tobago Defence Force, Trinidad and Tobago Police Service, the Ministry of Works, the Ministry of Transport and CEPEP) on alert in the event that immediate assistance needs to be rendered as a result of this weather.
We continue to underscore the following:-
- Stay calm, alert and cautious;
- Elevate valuables above floor level
- If there is flooding, do not walk or drive through flood waters. Stay inside until water levels have subsided;
- Be cautious when driving along hillsides or landslide prone areas;
- Listen to the media and follow the TT MET and ODPM’s information bulletins and advisories.
If citizens have been adversely affected by this weather, they must contact their municipal corporation or the ODPM at 800 6376.
Our country is not under any tropical storm threat, watch or warning at this time.
