First Responder Agencies on alert this weekend
MEDIA RELEASE
Friday July 01, 2011 – 2: 35 p.m.
First responder agencies will be on alert during the weekend
Over the last few days, the Inter Tropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) was quite active and this produced heavy showers and some thundershowers over Trinidad and Tobago. Additionally, this weekend, there will be the Annual International Red Bull Flugtag Competition on Sunday 3rdJuly 2011 at Pier One, Chaguaramas. This event which is expected to attract more than 15,000 persons and 100 watercrafts participants will occur between 10.30 am and 6.00 pm, with the Competition taking place between the hours of 12.00 pm and 6.00 pm.
In addition to this competition, the Western Peninsula will also be hosting the St Peter’s Day celebrations in Carenage which is expected to attract an equally large crowd.
The organisers of both events have taken the necessary steps to protect the participants and onlookers. However, as these events will be considered mass crowd events, the ODPM, as the lead coordinator for crises and emergencies, has put all first responder agencies (disaster management units of the municipal corporations, Trinidad and Tobago Fire Service, Trinidad and Tobago Defence Force, Trinidad and Tobago Police Service, the Emergency Health Services, the Ministry of Works, the Ministry of Transport and CEPEP) on alert in the event that immediate assistance needs to be rendered.
The ODPM advises citizens to continue to be vigilant and cautious as they conduct their weekend activities.
