TT MET advises that heavy showers are expected for the next 4 to 6 hours

PUBLIC ADVISORY

Saturday June 18, 2011 – 7:30 a.m.

Heavy Showers expected over the next 4 to 6 hours

In its 6: 30 a.m. Information Bulletin, the Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Service has indicated that over the next four to six hours, both islands will experience heavy showers and rain along with scattered moderate to heavy thundershowers. These conditions are due to the Inter Tropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) interacting with a tropical wave.

In light of the above, there is the possibility of street/flash flooding in areas so prone and gusty winds in excess of 40 km/h. If rainfall persists, small river causes can also become inundated.

We, at the ODPM, remind you of the following tips:-

  • Stay calm, alert and cautious.
  • If intense rainfall occurs and there is flooding, do not walk or drive through flood waters. Stay inside until water levels have subsided.
  • If you reside in a typically flood prone area, elevate all appliances and other valuables.
  • Be cautious when driving on wet roads, along hillsides or in landslide prone areas.

The ODPM reminds all citizens that if they have been affected by this weather situation, they must contact their municipal corporation or the ODPM at 800 6376.

Trinidad and Tobago is not under any tropical storm watch, threat or warning.

The Hurricane season has begun and as a result, we remind citizens to continue to take the necessary measures to safeguard life and property.
