MEDIA RELEASE

Monday May 23, 2011 – 10:00 a.m.

C.O.R.E Team to visit Bank Village, Carapichaima

Grand Riviere and Point Fortin

Since its launch on April 30, 2011, the ODPM’s new community-based initiative, C.O.R.E (Communities Organised Ready for Emergencies) has definitely made an impact in sensitising and empowering residents who live in traditionally flood-prone areas. Through these direct interactions with members of these communities, the C.O.R.E team and representatives from government agencies, NGOs, CBOs and the private sector, aim to empower residents by providing them with appropriate information on nearby shelters, disaster preparedness tips and maps so that they can develop solutions to effectively reduce the impact of hazards. Residents are also given advice and suggestions on how they can make their homes and surroundings safer and more able to withstand a hazard impact.

Over the last few weeks, C.O.R.E has visited Thick Village, Mayaro, Carenage, Curepe, Gasparillo and parts of San Fernando. Below is a schedule for this week’s activities:-
