Disturbed weather conditions could cause showers & thundershowers today: vigilance & caution are required

Through its 11:00 a.m. Information Bulletin, the TT Meteorological Services has advised that there is an area of disturbed weather east of the Windward Islands which has the potential to cause very heavy showers and thundershowers today. If this in fact materialises, both islands will experience heavy/intense showers and isolated thundershowers coupled with gusty winds (in excess of 50 km/h), lightning strikes and street/flash flooding in areas that experience heavy downpour. Landslides in areas so prone and inundation of small river courses are likely.

The ODPM, as the lead coordinator of emergencies and crises, has put the first responder agencies (TT Fire Service, TT Defence Force and the municipal corporations) on alert so that immediate assistance can be rendered if any adverse impact occurs. The ODPM reminds all citizens that if they have been affected by this inclement weather, they must contact their municipal corporation or 800 6376.

We continue to underscore the following:-

  • After heavy rainfall, stay inside until water levels have subsided and it is safe to venture outside.
  • Do not walk / drive through flood waters.
  • Be cautious when walking /driving along hillsides or landslide prone areas.

Trinidad and Tobago is still actively in the hurricane season; therefore citizens must continue to plan and prepare in order to safeguard life, property, community and country.
Trinidad and Tobago is NOT currently under any Tropical Storm threat, Watch or Warning. The TT Meteorological Services is monitoring this weather condition and will advise the ODPM accordingly.
