TT Met Service Official Statement- #1 Active Tropical Wave East of the Lesser Antilles

The Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Service (TTMS) has been closely monitoring the progress of an active Tropical Wave (TW) located approximately 1930km east of the Lesser Antilles. This TW is currently disorganized and does not yet have a closed circulation. The chance of development into a Tropical Cyclone over the next 48 hours is medium (60%), and as environmental conditions become more favourable over the next five (5) days, there is a high (70%) chance of intensification.

The system is moving westward near 32 km/hr and on it projected track it is forecast to move over portions of the Leeward Islands late Saturday night (14th August 2021) or early Sunday morning (15th August 2021). Refer to figure 1. At this time, this system poses no direct threat to Trinidad, Tobago, Grenada and its Dependencies.

The TTMS will continue to closely monitor these systems and will issue an update at 2:00 pm tomorrow (13th August 2021) or earlier if the situation warrants.
