TT MET SERVICE - OFFICIAL STATEMENT #4- TROPICAL WAVE EAST OF THE LESSER ANTILLES BECOMING MORE ORGANIZED
The Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Service (TTMS) has been closely monitoring two (2) active Tropical Waves in the Atlantic, TW1 and TW2. The first one, TW1, is currently affecting portions of the Lesser Antilles with rainfall and thunderstorm activity, and will continue to move westward over the Caribbean Sea later today. This wave has become less organised over the last 24 hours and no intensification is expected.
TW1 poses no direct threat to Trinidad and Tobago or Grenada and its dependencies. This will be the last statement on updates to TW1. The second wave, TW2, is located approximately 2090 km east-southeast of the Lesser Antilles, centred near 8.5N 42W and is moving west north-westward near 35 km/hr. This wave is gradually becoming more organized and now has a more favourable chance of developing into a Tropical Cyclone, with a 70% (high) chance of intensification over the next 48 hours and a 90% (high) chance over the next five (5) days. Regardless of development, this system will likely produce gusty winds and locally heavy rainfall across portions of the Lesser Antilles islands between Friday 2nd July 2021 and Saturday 3rd July 2021.
At this time, TW2 pose no direct threat to Trinidad and Tobago or Grenada and its dependencies. The TTMS will continue to closely monitor these systems and will issue an update on TW2 at 6:00 pm today (30th June 2021) or earlier if the situation warrants.
