OFFICIAL STATEMENT #4
DEPRESSION MOVING WEST-NORTHWESTWARD WITH LITTLE CHANGE IN STRENGTH

At 5:00 am, the centre of Tropical Depression Thirteen was located near 15.2N 49.8W, about 1455 km East of the Northern Leeward Islands. The system is moving toward the west-northwest near 33 km/h and this motion is expected to continue for the next couple of days.

There has been little change in the organization of Tropical Depression Thirteen during the past several hours.  An area of ragged but persistent convection continues near the estimated centre position and there is some outer banding in the southern semicircle.

Current analyses suggest that on its projected track, the centre of the system is forecast to move near or north of the northern Leeward Islands by late Friday 21st August 2020. Maximum sustained winds are near 55 km/h with higher gusts. Some gradual strengthening is forecast and the system is expected to transition to a tropical storm later today.

At this time, the system poses no direct threat to Trinidad and Tobago or Grenada and its dependencies.

The TTMS will continue to closely monitor this system and will issue an update at 6:00 pm today or earlier if the situation warrants. As always, pay close attention to information being issued by the TTMS by visiting www.metoffice.gov.tt, downloading our mobile app (search: TT Met Office) and following us on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram.
