OFFICIAL STATEMENT #2
TROPICAL DEPRESSION SEVEN FORMS OVER THE CENTRAL TROPICAL ATLANTIC

The low-pressure system in the Atlantic, which the Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Service (TTMS) has been closely monitoring, has been upgraded to Tropical Depression Seven (TD #7) as at 5 p.m. on Tuesday 21st July, 2020.

TD #7, at 5 p.m. was located at approximately 2285 km east of the Windward islands, centred near 9.8 North, 40.4 West.  The system is moving west-northwest at 13 km/hr with maximum sustained winds of 55 km/hr.

An increase in forward speed is expected tonight and Wednesday and westward motion should continue through to Friday. Strengthening is forecast during the next couple of days and the depression is expected to become a tropical storm tonight or Wednesday.

Current analyses suggest that on its current track, the system is forecast to reach the Southern Windward islands by Saturday morning and is expected to move just north of Trinidad and Tobago.

The TTMS will continue to closely monitor the system and will issue an update at 6:00 a.m. tomorrow or earlier if the situation warrants. As always, pay close attention to information being issued by the TTMS by visiting www.metoffice.gov.tt, downloading our mobile app (search: TT Met Office) and following us on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram.
