Drones to Support Disaster Management in T&T.

The ODPM held its first Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV)/Drone Volunteer meeting on Saturday 29th February 2020 at the ODPM’s Alternate National Emergency Operations Centre. The ODPM brought key stakeholders and volunteers together to discuss and strategize for its national implementation.

The UAV Volunteer Programme will strengthen the ODPM and other stakeholders’ situational awareness during and post a hazard through a network of certified UAV pilots. The programme aims to expedite damage assessments through the identification of the most impacted areas, marooned persons, persons in need of assistance and impacted transit routes.

During the meeting, Mr Kingsley Herreira of the Trinidad and Tobago Civil Aviation Authority provided insights into the legal aspects of drone usage in Trinidad and Tobago. CEO of the ODPM, Major General (Ret'd) Rodney Smart shared the objectives of the programme and also listened to the recommendations shared by the volunteers.

Also present at the meeting was the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service Operations Command Centre, Retrix Drone Services Limited and Millien Productions.

Pilots ready to support the roll-out of the UAV Volunteer Programme provided a comprehensive static display of the latest UAV technology.
