FLASH FLOODING REPORTED
DOWNTOWN PORT OF SPAIN
As a result of heavy rainfall occurring in North Western Trinidad this afternoon, Wednesday 03rd October, 2018, there are reports of flash flooding within the City of Port Spain.
Reports have indicated that flood waters have already begun to subside in the City of Port of Spain.
The Office of Disaster Preparedness and Management (ODPM) wishes to advise all persons to exercise caution when traversing the roadway or seek alternative routes where possible. Persons should delay travel for approximately 1 – 2 hours (if possible). This will reduce traffic congestion, stress and personal risk.
Citizens are advised of the following safety tips:
1. After heavy rainfall, stay inside until water levels have subsided;
2. Do not walk, play or drive through flood waters of unknown depth and current;
3. Be cautious when walking /driving along hillsides or landslide-prone areas;
4. If impacted by the inclement weather, please contact your Municipal Corporation or the Tobago Emergency Management Agency (TEMA) through its toll-free hotline numbers.
Citizens should continue to monitor the website and social media profiles of the Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Service and the ODPM for weather forecasts, alerts, warnings and cancellations. Visit www.metoffice.gov.tt or www.odpm.gov.tt.
The ODPM reminds all citizens if impacted by the inclement weather to contact your Municipal Corporation or the Tobago Emergency Management Agency (TEMA) through its toll-free hotline numbers.
