PUBLIC ADVISORY - HAZARDOUS SEA CONDITIONS CONTINUE - Sunday 30th September, 2018

PUBLIC ADVISORY

Sunday 30th September, 2018                                                          4:40 p.m.

HAZARDOUS SEA CONDITIONS CONTINUE

The Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Service (TTMS) has issued a Hazardous Seas Alert #3- Yellow Level for Trinidad and Tobago for the period Sunday 30th September, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. to Tuesday 2nd October, 2018 at 6:00 a.m.

Yellow level means that there is the potential for negative impacts. However, the damage can be avoided if persons monitor conditions and reduce their level of exposure.

The TTMS has advised that large breaking waves are being experienced along all coastlines of Tobago and along northern and eastern coastlines of Trinidad. Choppy conditios are also occurring in parts of the Gulf of Paria. This event is due to a combination of a moderate sea state and long period swells in excess of 12 seconds.

The Office of Disaster Preparedness and Management (ODPM), as the lead coordinator of emergency management, joins the TTMS in advising all marine interests including sea bathers, fishermen, and small craft operators to carefully monitor sea conditions and exercise caution during all sea-related activities.

The ODPM would like all residents and visitors to Get Ready and Stay Ready by implementing the following safety measures:

  • Be alert for dangerous breaking waves and currents.
  • Follow the instructions of lifeguards.
  • Monitor official news sources.

All residents and visitors should continue to monitor the website and social media profiles of the Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Service and the ODPM for weather forecasts, alerts, warnings and cancelations. Visit www.metoffice.gov.tt or wwww.odpm.gov.tt.

WE WISH TO UNDERSCORE THAT TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO IS NOT CURRENTLY UNDER ANY TROPICAL STORM THREAT, WATCH OR WARNING.
