DAMAGE ASSESSMENTS OF GOVERNMENT BUILDINGS AND SCHOOLS CONTINUE

On behalf of the Government of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, the National Emergency Operations Centre (NEOC) continues to coordinate damage assessments across Trinidad and Tobago subsequent to the earthquake event felt across Trinidad and Tobago one week ago (Tuesday 21st August, 2018, at 5:31p.m.) and its subsequent aftershocks.

On Tuesday 28th August, 2018 at 1:00 p.m., the NEOC changed its level of activation from Level Two (2) to Level One (1). Level One (1) means that representatives from various state agencies will no longer be stationed at the NEOC. The NEOC will continue to the spearhead the coordination of damage assessments by all state agencies.

Representatives from the  Ministry of Works and Transport (MOWT) supported by Civil Engineer Volunteers and the Urban Development Corporation of Trinidad and Tobago (UDeCOTT), the Ministry of Rural Development and Local Government (MRDLG), the Tobago Emergency Management Agency (TEMA) and the Trinidad and Tobago Fire Service (TTFS) will continue assessments on government/government-used facilities, inclusive of educational institutions and other building stock and report its findings to the NEOC.

At this time, there are no reports of serious injury, loss of life or significant damage to critical infrastructure.

WE WISH TO UNDERSCORE THAT TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO IS NOT CURRENTLY UNDER ANY TSUNAMI THREAT.
