On March 05, four (4) containers weighing 144,633 lbs of TTD $451,288.00 in value, were shipped to offer continued relief to those affected by the earthquake in Haiti. This shipment contained the following:-
- Dried Goods (such as Milk, sugar, rice, flour)
- Canned Items (such as Tuna, Sardines, Sausages etc)
- Household Items (such as mattresses, sheet sets and linen)
- Cases of bottles of Water
- Basic Toiletries
- Clothing
- Medical supplies
This brings the total number of containers shipped to Haiti as part of the Earthquake Relief Effort to ten (10) containers (in addition to the eight (8) containers which were shipped by the BPTT). The total weight of these ten containers is 378, 328 lbs.
The ODPM continues to appreciate the assistance of all the organisations, institutions and individuals that have rendered assistance to this specific initiative. Commendation is also extended to the members of the Trinidad and Tobago Defence Force, the Trinidad and Tobago Cadet Force, the Trinidad and Tobago Chamber of Industry and Commerce, the Trinidad and Tobago Manufacturers’Assocation, the Adventist Development and Relief Agency, the United Way of Trinidad and Tobago, the Foundation for the Enhancement and Enrichment of Life (FEEL), the Young Women’s Christian Association (YWCA) and the Tobago Emergency Management Agency (TEMA).
Additionally, we applaud the impressive monetary contributions which have been received thus far and we encourage citizens to continue donating to the First Citizens Bank – Haiti Relief Fund – Account No. 1817065.
The ODPM continues to affirm that the citizens of our twin island republic ought to continue to be proactive and PLAN PREPARE and PRESERVE in the face of natural and man-made hazards. It is only through planning and preparing, we can ensure that the well being of our citizens is preserved.
