January 29, 2010; Tacarigua, Trinidad W.I. - The ODPM salutes the citizens of Trinidad and Tobago for their selflessness and compassion in respect of the Haiti relief collection effort. This initiative has been quite successful thus far and we are confident that it will continue to benefit the persons who need the most aid. However, due to the outpouring of assistance, a number of the collection nodes are inundated with clothing. Consequently, the ODPM advises citizens to be guided by the list of items hereunder, when donating:-
- Potable water
- Canned Goods (with an expiry date of more than six (6) months)
- First Aid Supplies such as:-
- sterile gauze (various sizes)
- adhesive tape (non allergenic)
- adhesive bandages in several sizes
- elastic bandages for amputee stumps
- cotton conforming bandages
- antiseptic wipes
- soap
- hand sanitizer
- antibiotic cream (triple-antibiotic ointment)
- antiseptic solution
- acetaminophen and ibuprofen
- tweezers
- sharp scissors
- forceps
- safety pins
- calamine lotion
- alcohol wipes or ethyl alcohol
- thermometer
- non latex gloves
- blanket
- eye wash (saline solution)
- butterfly stitches
- triangular bandages
- rehydration salts
- splints
- beta dine solution
- cold packs
