Trincity, Trinidad West Indies
In commemoration of the sterling efforts of the military and civilian personnel who were stationed at the ODPM and consequently contributed to the success of the Fifth Summit of the Americas in Port of Spain, Trinidad, the ODPM hosted an appreciation ceremony at its compound in Trincity on September 23, 2009.
Present at this event were Ms. Desdra Bascombe, Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of National Security (who represented both the Minister and Minister of State), Mr. Paul Saunders, former Chief Executive Officer of the ODPM, Colonel George Robinson (Chief Executive Officer, ODPM), ODPM staff, specially invited guests and recipients of certificates and medals. In total, 99 persons were honoured for their excellent contribution.
In his speech, Colonel George Robinson espoused that “employee recognition is a means of communication that not only rewards positive results that people accomplish but also emphasizes positive outcomes. Effective recognition gets the message through to employees that positive accomplishments are rewarded and encouraged.” He closed by affirming that he hopes “these accolades would enjoy pride of place on favourite spaces in [your] homes and serve as a lasting and powerful reminder of your country’s appreciation for your commitment and diligence over the period of the Fifth Summit of the Americas.
The ODPM continues to prepare its personnel, its technological devices and its systems as Trinidad and Tobago approaches the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting to be held in Port of Spain in November.
