The Office of Disaster Preparedness and Management on Sunday, October 7, 2007 received a request from the Ministry of Social Development National Family Services Division, for relief items for the families affected by the flood waters in the Beetham Gardens.
This request followed preliminary damage assessments conducted by the Ministry of Social Development and officers from the San Juan/Laventille Regional Corporation. It was indicated that a large number of families lost their furniture, inclusive of bedding, in the flood waters.
ODPM has issued some fifty (50) mattresses and fifty (50) blankets to the San Juan/Laventille Regional Corporation to assist in providing relief to the affected families. These relief items were transported to the Corporation by the Trinidad and Tobago Defence Force First Engineer Battalion.
Assessments are ongoing.
