Severe Weather Conditions

Following the Severe Weather Warning issued by the Meteorological Service around 12 noon, the Office of Disaster Preparedness and Management has stepped up its activation mechanisms.

All emergency services and partner agencies are on stand-by ready to respond should there be any reports of incidents resulting from the heavy rains and gusty winds.

These agencies include:

  •  Trinidad and Tobago Defence Force
  •  Trinidad and Tobago Fire Service
  •  Trinidad and Tobago Police Service
  •  National Commission for Self Help of the Ministry of Community   Development
  •  National Family Services Division of the Ministry of Social  Development
  •  Ministry of Local Government
  •  WASA
  •  T&TEC
  •  TSTT
  •  Highways Division of the Ministry of Works and Transport
  •  SWMCOL Disaster Response Team
  •  Special Anti-Crime Unit of Trinidad and Tobago

The Meteorological Service indicated that this Tropical Wave could result in street and flash flooding and landslides in areas so prone. Because of this the ODPM is urging the public to remain vigilant and take the necessary precautions.

Landslides:
One report was received of a landslide in the Champs Fleur area affecting one house on Williams Street.
The Fire Service and SWMCOL Disaster Response Team have been contacted and are providing assistance. The San Juan/Laventille Regional Corporation has also been contacted.


Should persons wish to report any situations arising out of the heavy rains and the gusty winds they can call the Emergency Services and or ODPM at 640-1285/8905.

The public will be advised when necessary of any developments.
