SEVERE WEATHER ALERT
6.30 p.m.
The Meteorological Service has reported (Severe Weather Bulletin No 1 of July 17, 2007) that an active tropical wave will begin affecting Trinidad and Tobago by late evening. Heavy showers and isolated thunder showers are expected to affect the islands and there is also the possibility of gusty winds in excess of 50 km.
Street and or flash flooding could occur in areas so prone.
Reports from the Water Resources Agency have indicated that river levels are not above normal; however they continue to monitor the situation for any changes.
Actions taken
The Office of Disaster Preparedness and Management has partially activated the National Emergency Operations Centre, putting on the alert the emergency services.
The ODPM wishes to advise the public, especially those in flood prone areas, to remain vigilant and be prepared to move to higher grounds if flooding is imminent.
Should persons wish to report any situations arising out of the heavy rains they can call the Emergency Services and or ODPM at 640-1285/8905.
The public will be advised when necessary of any developments.
