The Office of Disaster Preparedness and Management wishes to remind the public that preparedness measures must continually be applied during the Hurricane season.
During this season, weather conditions not associated with a Hurricane or a severe weather system can have an impact on homes and business places. Today, several parts of the country would have experienced strong winds and heavy rain due to the interaction between a Tropical Wave and the Inter-Tropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ).
In light of this the ODPM is urging the public to ensure their roofs are properly secured, and loose items like old paint cans, galvanize or roofing material, or any object that can be easily picked up by strong winds be removed.
Other tips:
- Trim tall trees that are close to homes and electrical wires
- Remove unused building material and tools
- Clean guttering and drains on a regular basis
- Assemble a first aid kit , food and water to last for at least seven days
