Volunteer Programme Information
The Office of Disaster Preparedness and Management (ODPM) is developing the National Volunteer Programme. The aim is to establish a system for volunteers to offer their time and skills towards helping others before, during and after hazard impacts in Trinidad and Tobago. Consequently, the ODPM will have the responsibility of providing volunteers with disaster-related training to help prepare them to provide support.
The National Volunteer Programme will allow the public, private and civil sectors to take ownership of their communities’ vulnerabilities and engage in risk reduction and emergency management practices. The strongest mechanisms for communities to lessen the adverse impacts of hazards are through communication, coordination, cooperation and collaboration. The increased Disaster Risk Management capabilities will result in communities that are better prepared and more resilient in emergency situations.
